Stream is seen as a young kit, with her littermate, Spot, as barn kits. Spot is sleeping in his nest when he rolls over on top of her. She wakes up and crawls out of her nest, leaving Spot behind. She walks out of the barn, only to be scolded and put back in the barn. When it catches on fire, she runs out of the barn and is the only one to live. When she sees her mother and brother dead, she realizes that she could have saved them.
About a moon and a half later, she is 4 moons old. She is seen sitting on her barn and a young apprentice of Shadowclan, Fallowpaw, sees her, with his mentor, Rainfern. Rainfern tells him to go attack her, and he hisses back, "No! She isn't doing anything!" Smiling knowingly, he flicks him over the ear, but does nothing else.
